Vol. 4: What happens at 60?
A wise friend of mine asked me many years ago, “Who do you want to be when you’re 60?”
I paused.
So many things rushed to my mind. I want to be an elegant woman. I want to have deep meaningful relationships. I want to have snow white hair that’s perfectly quaffed and dress perfectly eccentric.
I thought a little deeper. I want the be a kind woman that invests in the people around her. I want to remember the big moments of my life and smile. I want to create the space for people to figure out who they are with grace and compassion. Ultimately, I want a meaningful legacy of joy, laughter, wisdom, and generosity.
My friend then looked at me and said, “What does being that woman mean for you now?”
In my case, “being that woman now” meant creating The Mackreth. The Mackreth embodies all the elements of who I want to be when I’m 60.
The Mackreth invites guests to pause the mundane parts of life and create their soundtrack of joy. The Mackreth is the place to celebrate the milestones of your life…because the peak of living is a party. The Mackreth is your canvas for beautiful memories, laughter, joyful experiences, and simple beauty.
I created The Mackreth because life is meant to be enjoyed. It is meant to be celebrated. Life is not perfect, and at times can be isolatingly lonely. And I think that’s what makes pausing to notice and acknowledge the fantastical things that happen in your life so sweet.
I created The Mackreth because who I want to be when I’m 60 – who you want to be when you’re 60 – happens now. It happens in small, almost unremembered actions. It happens in the eccentric tablescapes. It happens in the “pop” of champagne. It happens in the crackle of a fire, and it happens in the feeling of a perfectly peaceful moment.
The Mackreth may be my story. What is yours?
And - I can’t wait for you to write it.
